β’ 200g Cooked Sushi Rice (1 Cup)
β’ 5ml Rice Vinegar (1 Teaspoon)
β’ 3 Sheets Nori
β’ 30g Smoked Salmon (ΒΌ Cup), sliced
β’ Β½ Cucumber, cut into matchsticks
β’ Β½ Carrot, peeled into ribbons
β’ Β½ Red Pepper, cut into matchsticks
β’ Β½ Avocado, diced
Method π
1. Wash rice: Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
2. Cook rice: Add the rice to a saucepan, cover with cold water and bring to the boil. Once boiling, turn off the heat and allow the rice to steam with the lid on.
3. Season rice: Once the rice is cooked and steamed, mix in the rice vinegar. Cover and leave to stand.
4. Prepare vegetables: Cut the red pepper and cucumber into matchstick-style pieces. Use a peeler to shave ribbons of carrot and dice the avocado.
5. Prepare salmon: Cut the smoked salmon into small strips, keeping it separate from the vegetables.
6. Prepare rolling mat: Lay a sheet of parchment or greaseproof paper onto the work surface to use as a sushi mat.
7. Assemble sushi rolls: Place one sheet of nori onto the paper and spread a thin layer of rice over two-thirds of the sheet using the back of a spoon or your fingertips. Wet your fingertips slightly so that the rice does not stick to your fingers.
8. Add fillings: Place vegetables and smoked salmon along one edge of the rice-covered nori.
9. Roll sushi: Use the parchment paper to carefully and tightly roll the sushi into a cylinder. Seal the edge with damp fingers, taking care not to soak the nori.
10. Slice rolls: Using a sharp knife, cut the sushi roll in half, then cut each half again to make 4β6 pieces.
11. Make inside-out rolls: Spread rice directly onto the parchment paper first, then place the nori on top followed by the fillings. Roll and slice as before.
12. Make nigiri: Wet your hands and shape the rice into small triangles or oval shapes. Place smoked salmon on top.
Serve: Add soya sauce for dipping.
Donβt Forget! π
Adding a piece of sushi ginger and maybe a squeeze of Wasabi can make the taste even better.
