Ingredients 🌾🥥🧈🍯🧂🍂🍪
• 60g Wholemeal Wheat Flour (½ Cup)
• 60g Plain Flour (½ Cup) (Or use 120g (1 Cup) Wholemeal Wheat Flour in total, if preferred
• 125g Rolled Oats (1⅓ Cups
• 100g Sugar (½ Cup)
• 40g Desiccated Coconut (½ Cup)
• 125g Butter or Margarine (9 Tablespoons)
• 1 Tablespoon Golden Syrup
• ½ Teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda (Baking Soda)
• Pinch of Ground Cinnamon
• ½ Teaspoon Ground Cloves
Method 📖
1. Preheat Oven: Set the oven to 180°C (350°F).
2. Prepare Tin: Lightly grease or line a 20cm x 20cm (8" x 8") square baking pan.
3. Ready the Bowl: Place a large mixing bowl on the counter.
4. Combine Dry Ingredients: Add the flours, oats, sugar, and coconut to the bowl. Mix for 20 seconds.
5. Melt Wet Ingredients: In a small saucepan, add the butter or margarine, syrup, and bicarbonate of soda.
6. Heat Gently: Stir over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until the mixture bubbles.
7. Combine with Dry: Pour the hot mixture into the dry ingredients.
8. Mix Well: Stir for 1 minute until no dry patches remain.
9. Add Spices: Sprinkle in the cinnamon and cloves. Stir for 10 seconds to distribute.
10. Transfer to Tin: Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan.
11. Press Flat: Use the back of a spoon to press it evenly and firmly into the pan.
12. Bake: Place on the middle oven shelf and bake for 15 minutes.
13. Cool Briefly: Remove from the oven and place on a cooling rack. Let sit for 5 minutes.
14. Slice While Warm: Cut into 12 bars or squares with a sharp knife.
15. Cool Completely: Leave in the tin until fully cooled (about 30 minutes).
16. Serve: Lift out and store in an airtight container.
